Akoncity is being built on a 2,000 acre part of land that is a gift to Akon by Senegal President Mackey Sall. Additionally, the city will allegedly operate primarily on Crypto Currency Akoin. Akoin is another one of Akon’s entrepreneurial endeavors.

Akon has been very active within the Africa borders with multiple projects. In addition to Akoncity, the singer started Akon Lighting Africa. The Lighting project provides solar-powered energy to African communities.

With his new “Crypto City” Akon hopes to create a tourist attraction that is comparable to Dubai.

Furthermore, the singer believes that cryptocurrency and blockchain can be the “savior for Africa”. In an interview, The locked up singer expressed his belief that  “Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology offer a more secure currency that enables people in Africa to advance themselves independent of the government.”

Akoncity will cost around 2 billion dollars to complete. Construction of the city began in March of 2019, and a second phase is scheduled to begin in 2025. The plans to fund the city are kinda vague but includes hedge funds, NGO’s and private investors in Africa.

It is nice to see someone from Africa invest in it in the way Akon has. In the past few years, China has taken an interest in African investments. While this isn’t wrong in any sense, we as a society have to acknowledge the history of manipulation Africa is rich with. Almost every major power in today’s modern world has pillaged Africa for it rich natural resources. With knowledge of this history, it is the duty of the people of this time to not allow history to repeat itself.

What do you guys think about Akoncity? Will it be like a real-life Wakanda? Or are Akon’s dreams to lofty to actually complete.
