Art Dubai announces details for 2021

Art Dubai, one of the most important events on the global arts calendar, is taking place at Dubai’s Souk Madinat Jumeirah between Wednesday March 17 and Tuesday March 23, 2021, and the exciting line-up has just been revealed.

Showcasing both local and regional talent to the world, the massive art fair will feature 85 galleries from 36 countries across the globe.

Of those 85 galleries, 11 represent the UAE and its booming arts scene. Lawrie Shabibi will be exhibiting with Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim who was recently selected to represent the National UAE Pavilion at the 2022 Venice Biennale, and Salwa Zeidan Gallery will be showing Hussain Sharif in Bawwaba.

Adapting to current times, there will also be a brand-new programme of events and experiences and for the first time ever, the massive art fair will be spread out at various art spaces. A brand-new artist-led programme will be designed and guided by the artists participating in the art fair, including live art happenings and site-specific experiences around Dubai. From performances on the beach to karaoke performances and themed encounters, the site-specific events are set to take over the city.

For Art Dubai 2021, there will be three main sections, Art Dubai Contemporary, Art Dubai Modern, and Bawwaba.

Art Dubai Contemporary will present a diverse selection of galleries and exhibited artists, ranging from emerging art scenes to more established art hubs from around the world, while Art Dubai Modern, which is curated by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, will feature stunning works by 20th-century modern masters working in specific geo-historical contexts across the MENASA region.

Bawwaba, which translates to ‘gateway’ in Arabic, is curated by Nancy Adajania and will feature solo presentations created within the last year and will showcase alternative perspectives from diverse global hubs of trade, culture and art.

The biggest art event in the Dubai calendar is returning and we can’t wait.
