Black Panther returning to cinemas for free screenings during Black History Month

Black Panther is set to return to cinemas in the US.

In celebration of Black History Month, the Marvel film will be screened for free, twice a day, at 250 participating AMC Theater locations from 1-7 February.

Disney has also announced a $1.5m grant to UNCF, which funds scholarships for black students.

“Black Panther is groundbreaking for many reasons, including the rich diversity of voices behind its success,” Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement.

“The story also showcases the power of knowledge to change the world for the better, and the importance of ensuring everyone has access to it.”

The cast of the film was awarded Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the SAG Awards on Sunday, 27 January.

It also earned seven Oscar nominations last week, becoming the first superhero film ever nominated for Best Picture.
