Why is faith our victory? Because it is the key to defeating the enemies of this world and possessing the promises of God. 1 John 5:4 says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” The New Living Translation puts in this way, “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.”
This verse is not saying if “our” faith is strong enough or big enough we will some how be able to get the victory in our life. Rather, this verse states that faith IS the victory. Faith is our victory!
JESUS HAS ALREADY WON THE VICTORY
Remember, Jesus won the victory for us two thousand years ago. How? By completely and totally defeating the enemy. Jesus left NOTHING unfinished. He destroyed all the works of the Devil. Colossians 2:15 says,“He (Jesus) disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
What does that mean to you and me? In means, we are not working and trying to win the victory. There are not any victories left to win. It means, we need to continue to enforce the victory Jesus won for us by faith. We must stand in, and live in, HIS victory.
WHO HAS THE VICTORY?
Who has this victory? 1John 5 verse 5 asks and answers that very question. ”Who is he that overcomes the world, – he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” Victory in our life is gained when we put our trust in Jesus. Faith is trusting and believing in Jesus, believing in what He has done, and believing in what He has said. Faith is the victory!
WHY IS FAITH THE VICTORY?
WHY is faith the victory? Faith is not just how we receive from God. Faith is actually the evidence that we have what God has already provided for us and in us through Christ. When we allow God to establish His Word and His Truth in our heart, faith emerges. Faith is the evidence that He has done and provided all that we have hoped for. (Hebrews 11:1)
THE ENEMY WANTS TO DESTROY YOUR FAITH
That being said we need to be alert and watchful. The enemy will try to steal the victory from you through lies and deception. He wants to destroy your faith. There are many believers who have had their faith shipwrecked. (1Timothy 1:9) This is why we need to apply all of the lessons on living by faith. When faith exist then fear, doubt, and unbelief are removed and we step into what God has provided for us.
VICTORY IS A RELATIONSHIP
Victory is not something God just hands to us, but rather it is a relationship with Him rather it is a person – Jesus! When Jesus is LORD of our lives we are then able to live in, and move in, HIS victory in our lives! So, developing our faith is all about growing in our relationship with Jesus.
There are obstacles and storms that we encounter in life that need to be overcome. They are overcome by faith – trusting Jesus. The victory we have in Jesus is what empowers us with His grace to persevere and overcome the storms in this world. This FAITH is our victory.
VICTORY IS SOMETHING WE ENTER NOT EARN
This victory is not a victory we earn, but rather a victory we enter. Faith is not about US or about how strong WE are or what WE can do. Faith is all about God. It’s all about us being dependent upon God’s strength and ability. Faith is about putting and keeping our trust in Jesus. Jesus is the “author and finisher of our faith”. (Hebrews 12:2)
TRUST THE LORD
When we trust God, we are victorious and He is glorified. When we try to do things in our own strength and ability we will ultimately fail. FAITH IS OUR VICTORY!
