Juice WRLD‘s death has been ruled an accidental overdose according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The full autopsy and toxicology report, which attributes the overdose to oxycodine and codeine, had not yet been released to the public on Jan. 22, when the office announced the artist’s cause of death. The office noted that the report was not yet complete and could therefore not be made public. However, the report could be released to the public as early as Jan. 23, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Juice WLRD, born Jarad A. Higgins, died on Dec. 8, 2019 after he suffered convulsions and went into cardiac arrest at the Chicago Midway International Airport in Chicago, Illinois. Upon searching the rapper’s and companions’ luggage for drugs and guns at the Atlantic Aviation hangar at the airport, Chicago police and federal agents reportedly uncovered 41 “vacuum-sealed” bags of marijuana and six bottles of prescription codeine cough syrup.
The search also yielded two 9 mm pistols and a .40-caliber pistol, as well as a high-capacity ammunition magazine and metal-piercing bullets. Two of Juice WRLD’s security guards were subsequently charged with misdemeanors for illegal possession of the guns and ammunition.
When asked by police if the rapper had any medical issues or had taken anything, Juice WRLD’s girlfriend told officials that he took Percocet and “had a drug problem,” the Tribune reports. Juice WRLD was 21-years-old.
