MAKE MUSIC LAGOS IS BACK FOR THE 2019 EDITION WITH THE THEME, GENERATION NXT

The Make Music Lagos organizing team, made up of Showgear and its partners, are happy to announce that the 2019 edition of the week-long celebration of World Music Day in the city of Lagos will run from 16th June to 23rd June with the theme: GENERATION NXT.

This edition, which is aptly named Make Music Lagos: Generation NXT, promises an exciting and one of a kind line-up of brand new and returning events starting on Sunday 16th June and Monday 17th June with surprise FLASH MOBs that will feature dance and drum display sessions by the Alien Nation Dance Crew and drum maestro, Ochuko in 2 mystery locations in the city of Lagos. So, you’ll have to follow @MakeMusicLagos on social media to be the first to know these locations.

And following the big start is the Make Music Lagos’ LEARN TO PLAY initiative, which is designed to teach and mentor the next generation of instrumentalists, on Tuesday 18th June and Wednesday 19th June at Lagos State Education District 1, Agege and on Saturday 22nd June at the Pacelli’s School of the Blind, Surulere.

Also on the line-up of activities on Tuesday 18th June and Wednesday 19th June is a brand new Make Music Lagos initiative, WRITING CAMP FOR MUSIC CREATIVES, being hosted in partnership with alternative music superstar, BEZ at his newly opened hub for creatives in Lagos – RTIST HUB.

Another brand new initiative to look forward to in the Make Music Lagos 2019 line-up is the MUSIC BUSINESS CONFERENCE being hosted by Showgear, Porch Music and Suzan Adinoyi, hosted by the Red Carpet Hall, Lekki on Thursday 20th June with support from a host of a-list speakers like Eddie Lawani, Godwin Tom, COSON Executives etc.

And on Friday 21st June, which is World Music Day, lovers of music can look forward to the following: FREE MUSIC CONCERTS across multiple locations in Lagos; more LEARN TO PLAY events at Ikeja City Mall, City Mall Onikan, and Festival Mall; STREET STUDIO events where they get the opportunity to make fresh music with help from leading producers like Chocolate City’s Dapo, Florocka, VC Perez, Gospel on the Beat, ALTIMS, Willz etc.; LEARN TO DJ events which provides opportunities to learn disc jockey (DJ) skills and get mentorship from the likes of DJ Cypha, DJ Lambo and DJ Gosporella at various venues – (See www.makemusiclagos.org.ng for a detailed list of venues and times).

And for those who cannot get out to catch one of the live events on World Music Day (Friday 21st June), they can tune in to listen to the newly launched NEW MUSIC MARATHON on select radio stations in Lagos to experience the joys of freshly discovered sounds and artists.

The last and biggest of the Make Music Lagos 2019 line-up of events is the LAGOS SHUTDOWN CONCERT, which will have performances by big name artists on Sunday 23rd June at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island. Confirmed artists for the finale event will be unveiled in the coming days. You don’t want to be told about the Lagos Shutdown so save the date. Admission is FREE, but you need to be on the lookout for the registration details on the Make Music Lagos website (www.makemusiclagos.org.ng) and social media pages @MakeMusicLagos.

The Lagos State Government endorses Make Music Lagos 2019. SHOWGEAR and its organizing partners lead the organizing team: ALIEN NATION, IMPREVA, IPC EVENTS, LEGACY PLANET LIMITED, and STYLEVILLE.

And as it is the global practice of Make Music Day, ALL EVENTS ARE FREE. Meaning that you do not pay to attend or perform at any of the events. It is open to all without any strings attached.
