Mercedes-AMG G63 Gets Japanese Pop Art Wrap (Takashi Murakami), Looks Wild

The recent generation change of the Mercedes-AMG G63 might have made the offroader considerably more modern, but the lines of the G Wagon are still the proper kind of boxy, which makes it the perfect canvas. And when the Affalterbach bad boy meets a wrap like the one that brought us here, the result fully deserves the eye candy label.

The G63 was shot in Moscow, but the art that covers is comes all the way from Japan. That’s because the vehicle seems to sport the work of Takashi Murakami.

We’re talking about a pop artist who likes to deliver a melange involving elements from both the local culture and the American one. So, if you zoom in on the second skin job of this Merc, you’ll get to see influences from the Otaku realm in ways that can be difficult to imagine. In fact, it is said that Takashi Murakami’s influence in Japan is similar to the one Andy Warhol has in America.

Given the artistic nature of this Mercedes-AMG G63, there’s another aspect of the car that fits the role, namely its soundtrack. So while the said wrap pleases the eye, the voice of the vehicle’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 caters to the needs of the ear.

Now, make sure to use the swipe feature of the Instagram post(s) below and enjoy the complete eye candy, with Russian camera wizard Ivan Orlov having done a brilliant job at capturing the magic of the German machine we have here.

PS: Those who want to dive deeper into the world of the said Japanese artist can do so by checking out the two Instagram posts at the bottom of the page. Then again, I have to warn you – Murakami’s account is the kind of realm that can keep one busy for hours on end.
