MORATA PROMISED SIMEONE HE WOULD MOVE TO ATLETICO BEFORE CHELSEA MOVE

Alvaro Morata has revealed he promised Diego Simeone he would sign for Atletico Madrid before the striker made the move to Chelsea.

The Spaniard revealed that Simeone made contact with him over three years ago, and that he promised the Argentine that he would try to move to Madrid as soon as possible.

Speaking to AS, Morata revealed that:

If I tell you the truth, the first contact was three-and-a-half years ago.

I gave him my word that as soon as I was able to, I would come. It wasn’t possible before.

But it wasn’t because of me. I gave him my word, and now I’ve come here it has been the time when I’ve talked with Simeone the least!

Morata would reject a move to Atletico at the time and would make the move to Chelsea for over £71 million.

However, after struggling in England, Chelsea decided to loan Morata to Atletico with a view to buy this January.

The striker has an assist to his name in Spain so far, but has yet to net for his new side.

Morata will be looking to get going on Wednesday night when Atletico face one of his old sides in Juventus.

The Italian giants matchup with Atletico looking to progress in the UEFA Champions League, but Morata will be looking to get one over Juve, where he spent two seasons before returning to Real Madrid.
