NOLLYWOOD FILMMAKERS PLAN SUMMIT TO ADDRESS TECHNICAL DEFICITS

An all-encompassing summit that will address the technical deficit in the movie industry is to be held in the first quarter of this year in Lagos, Abuja and one other city.

The African Creative Summit initiated by Brianz and Lloyds International in partnership with different guilds like Director’s Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Screen Writers Guild of Nigeria,( SWGN), AMP and others, is looking to provide capacity building for the men and women behind the camera.

“One of the main constraints is the quality of technical and creative training in the industry,” Fred Amata, the President of DGN, stated, while speaking with media men during a press briefing at Surulere.

“This has resulted in a lack of depth and breadth, which is essential to capitalise on continental and global opportunities.

“In view of the above, Braniz & Lloyds International has decided to convene the Africa Creative Summit in Nigeria 2018 as a Nollywood Collaborative effort in partnership with the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN); the Kaduna State government, CAVS (the most substantial audiovisual service in Ireland); with the objective of enhancing cooperation between foreign technical experts and home grown Nigerian creative individuals/professionals,’ he added.

Regarded as the maiden forum organised to tackle issues of technical import, the Creative Summit, according to Amata, “will focus on developing economic and technical creative side of entertainment relationships within industry. The Summit intends to foster strategic alliances and solid business partnerships between relevant businesses from around the globe.

“We will be addressing this constraint by having workshops and speakers, which focus on the technicalities of Film, Television, Audiovisual, Music, Radio, Entertainment Law and Creative investment. “Workshops will be delivered by top players in this field who will be able to provide practical knowledge and skills as well as valuable insights into how we can go about ensuring improvements in the Nigerian Creative Industry.”

Chief Executive Officer of Brianz and Lloyds, Brienze Lawrence, said that the summit will also bridge the gap and meet the demands of technology and innovation in the technical aspect of movie making.

She said: “As someone who is based in Ireland, I have been amazed by the intelligence of our movie makers and cameramen who utilises a camera even without being fully trained on how to use it. Imagine if the manufacturers send technicians to train them on how to optimize its use, it impacts on the quality of our movies and projects. This is what African Creative Summit hopes to achieve- a robust capacity building for men behind thee cameras.”

The media brief had in attendance, veteran actor, Tony Akposheri of The New Masquerade, Lagos Chairman of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria AGN, Don Pedro Agambi, Uche Agbo, Secretary General of DGN, erudite moviemaker and broadcaster, Don Pedro Obaseki and Ms Brienze Lawrence.

Don Pedro Obaseki stated that all guilds were being carried along in the proposed summit.
