When it comes to normal rich lists, you might expect to see figures such as JK Rowling, the Queen or Bill Gates included. But would you ever dream that a chicken or dog could be linked to so much wealth?
Well, according to Compare the Market’s 2018 Pet Rich List – the first list of its kind – there are some animals out there far richer than some humans will ever be.
This may come as a bit of a surprise, but the richest animal on the list is worth over $375 million (£294 million)! He’s a German Shepherd called Gunther IV, and has his own personal maid and butler, eats steak and caviar, and possesses several million-dollar homes.
Compare the Market’s pet insurance team compiled the rich list, which also includes social media star Grumpy Cat, worth $99.5 million (£78 million). She became famous, and wealthy, after a photo of her went viral in 2012. She can now attribute her massive wealth to film, merchandise and 2.5 million Instagram followers.
But it’s not all just about cats and dogs – Gigoo is the world’s richest chickenwho inherited his fortune and has a net worth of $15 million (£11.75 million). Further down the list, there is also Missy the cow, worth over a million dollars, a bear, monkeys, tortoises and a parrot.
