lava

Lava overflows a small crater in Kīlauea Volcano’s East Rift Zone, adjacent to the main Pu’u ‘Ō’ō crater, on Hawaii’s Big Island, April 17, 2018. Weeks of building pressure within the magma system led to rising levels of lava, numerous earthquakes, and a series of eruptions that forced residents in the area to evacuate. Dozens of homes and other buildings were destroyed by lava.
