Kano State governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday presented a budget estimate of N233, 828,850.593 billion for the 2018 financial year.

In Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki presented an appropriation bill of 146 billion to the state House of Assembly Wednesday while Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State presented N122.8billion proposal.

Tabling the estimates at the Kano State House of Assembly, Governor Ganduje stated that the 2018 budget is higher than the 2017 budget by N732.252 million, adding that in the estimated budget, N151.1 billion would go for capital expenditure while N81.9 billion would be for recurrent expenditure.

Tagged ‘Budget of Reality,’ the budget proposal has in its projection a recurrent revenue standing at M147 billion with a projected internally generated revenue of N53 billion.

Explaining his own ‘Budget of Growth,’ Governor Godwin Obaseki said the 2018 budget was made up of N66,797,615,689 for recurrent and N79,862,214,754 as capital expenditure, noting that the budget size of N146, 659,830,444 billion, is a 15% nominal increase over the 2017 budget.

“In terms of statutory allocation, we expect an increase from N48.7 billion in 2017 to N55.7 billion in 2018. We expect to receive VAT revenue from N11 billion as against the estimate of N10 billion last year,” he said.

He listed some of the sectoral allocations to include N9.7bn for economic growth and employment, N7.1bn for institutional reforms, law and other reforms, N6.3bn for education, and N3.3bn for health.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Honourable Kabiru Adjoto,  assured the governor that the House would support the budget by widening its scope to meet the aspiration of Edo People.

In Nasarawa, Governor Umaru Al-Makura told the House of Assembly that his

N122.8billion proposal was aimed at consolidating his administration’s achievements in fighting poverty and unemployment and to ensure even development in the state.

The Nasarawa budget proposal indicates that Works, Housing and Urban Development got the highest with N37.30 billion, followed by Education with N24.23 billion and  Health N8.76 billion.

Al-Makura called on the assembly to give the budget proposal speedy passage, to which, the Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, responded with assurance.
