The second season of “No Passport Required” begins on Dec. 13 with a six-episode arc that includes a stop in Houston for beef suya.
Host Marcus Samuelsson has included Houston in his exploration of the country’s immigrant-rich cities, focusing in Episode 3 on the city’s growing Nigerian, Senegalese and Liberian communities. During the episode, airing Monday, January 27 on PBS, Samuelsson visits Suya Hut, 11720 W. Airport Blvd., a restaurant serving food of West Africa, specifically northern Nigeria. Suya, spiced skewered meat, and jollof rice are on the menu.
Suya Hut is among the Houston restaurants including Safari Restaurant and Chop n’ Block pop-up featured in the episode.
According to the producers, Samuelsson learns about the bold flavors of West African cuisine and how that food is making its way into mainstream America. The host also visits Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Boston for “No Passport Required.”
