Following reports that Chocolate City President and rapper MI Abaga had dragged American hip-hop legend Nas to court over an undelivered verse, his management has declared that they would rather talk about his new single than discuss the court case.
News outlets had reported that MI filed a case against Nas in the Supreme Court of the State of New York over a verse he had been paid for. The court papers show that in 2013, MI and Chocolate City paid $50,000 to Nas to plug ‘MI, Chocolate City and Nigeria’. They claim that the verse Nas delivered did not contain those words and was requested another one. Nas has neither obliged nor refunded the money paid to him.
Our correspondent reached out to MI’s management for clarification on the issue.
’Please my brother, let’s just leave that for now. We just dropped a new single today but nobody is talking about that. All. They’re saying is Nas Nas Nas. We will make a statement on that soon. But for now, let’s talk about the music, ‘ his manager said.
While this is not the first time Nigerian acts will accuse their American counterparts of music-related fraud, it is the first time a Nigerian artiste is following through with a legal proceeding.
However, some fans believe the timing of this is to further create more buzz around MI as he released the first single leading up to his forthcoming album on the same day.
